| Does a custom storage system really
make a difference? Absolutely! Most closets only
have a single bar and shelf in them which is a major waste of square footage. A properly
designed closet system can triple or double your usable storage space. This is
accomplished by double hanging the short garments and providing a place for folded
garments along with long clothes. Your planning is very important to the final design. You
need to think about how you intend to use the closet. Many people have everything in the
closet but the kitchen sink, our designer needs to know what your plans are so they can be
sure to design a storage system that will work right for YOU.
How much will it cost?
Unfortunately this is a very hard question to answer
without first seeing your closet space and having an understanding of what your needs are.
I wish we could just pull a number out of our hat but that would be very misleading to
you. What effects the cost of a closet is the size of the space, the type of materials
used and the accessories included in the design. Our policy is to provide a free in-home
estimate and quote the job if possible at that time.
What kind of material is best?
The closet companies that only sell one type of shelving
will tell you that their system is best. Because we carry three styles of shelving we can
be more objective while meeting a number of needs. Cost aside, some materials are simply
better than others depending on where they are going to be used, i.e., small closet, large
walk-in closet, basement, pantry, garage, etc. There are three basic closet materials
being use in our industry today. They are: laminated wood, ventilated steel and ventilated
or solid hard wood. You and our designer will assess your needs including your
budget and select the material that meets all of these factors.
Who installs my new system?
Closet Crafters uses its own factory-trained staff on all
of our projects. All of our staff is cross-trained to install all the products we carry.
We have over 49 years of combined experience over our twelve years in business. We believe
it is a privilege to work with you and be in your home. Our installers wear protective
booties while in your home and our clean up is spotless. We feel your home should be
treated as if it was our own!
What is the best style of door to have
on a closet?
There are only three styles of doors used on closets:
sliding or by-pass, by-fold and swing door. The amount of floor space available has a lot
to do with the door selection as does the cost factor. Most reach-in closets have by-pass
doors on them, and some have by-fold and few have swing doors. We prefer to see swing
doors whenever possible, then by-fold and lastly sliding doors. Let me explain each.
The goal of any closet is to be able to access your
clothing. Swing doors when open provides the greatest clear space available, but they also
require more open floor space in-order to swing open. By-fold doors open almost as much as
swing door but when open all the way they take up about 6" on each side of the closet
opening, but they require very little floor space. Sliding doors never allow you to see
more than half of your closet at a time. You always have to move them back and forth
to get to your things on the one side or the other. Whenever possible the door on a
walk-in closet should swing out, NOT into the closet.
How long does it take to install a
closet system?
Depending on the size and complexity of the design we can
usually have a job finished within one day.
How long does it take to do an estimate?
Our designer has years of experience and can generally meet
with you with in one or two days of scheduling an appointment. The complexity of the job
and the number of closets being considered has a lot to do with the time this process
takes. You should plan on at least a minimum of one hour.
